WordPress

WordPress is a free and open source content management system (CMS) written in PHP and paired with a MySQL or MariaDB database. Features include a plugin architecture and a template system, referred to inside WordPress as Themes.

It's important to distinguish between WordPress.org and WordPress.com. WordPress.org is the self-hosted version, where you download the WordPress software and install it on your own web server. It offers maximum flexibility and customization potential. WordPress.com is a hosted service that offers a limited free plan with paid upgrades. It's more restrictive in terms of plugins and themes but also handles hosting for the user.

Key Features of WordPress:

  • User Management: Flexible roles and permissions to manage multiple users and contributors efficiently.
  • Media Management: Easy uploading, organizing, and embedding of images, videos, and other media types.
  • Theme System: Extensive library of customizable themes for diverse website designs and layouts.
  • Extend with Plugins: Thousands of plugins available to add features and functionality without coding.
  • Search Engine Optimized: Built-in SEO-friendly structure with options for advanced optimization via plugins.
  • Responsive Design: Mobile-friendly themes and layouts that adapt seamlessly to any device.
  • Regular Updates: Frequent updates for improved security, performance, and new features.
